The Grow Outdoors Institute is a registered charity dedicated to elevating standards and outcomes in outdoor alternative education across the UK.
Our Mission
We exist to ensure that every young person accessing outdoor alternative education receives high-quality, evidence-based provision delivered by professionally supported organisations.
ABOUT US
What We Do
Accreditation & Quality Assurance
We provide a comprehensive accreditation framework for outdoor education providers, ensuring members meet rigorous standards around safeguarding, insurance, policies, and practice. Our quality mark gives parents, schools, and commissioners confidence in provision.
Research & Programme Development
We conduct targeted research into the specific challenges facing young people in alternative education settings. From this research, we develop evidence-based intervention programmes that members can license and deliver. All programmes are accredited with appropriate educational bodies.
Sector Development & Advocacy
We work to professionalise outdoor alternative education, promoting it as a legitimate and rewarding career pathway. We lobby government on the critical importance of alternative provision and work to elevate the sector’s reputation and recognition.
What We Do
Our members include farm-based education providers, outdoor activity centres, forest schools, and other organisations delivering education outside mainstream settings. We serve young people from Year 7 upwards who benefit from alternative approaches to learning.
Our Vision
We envision a future where outdoor alternative education is recognised as a vital component of the UK education system, staffed by highly-skilled professionals and delivering measurable, transformative outcomes for young people.
